My Dear Two-Face

My Dear Two-Face

Opposite the mirror
I radiate on the glare:
a tender heart
tied to what is right,
a tender mind
bound by what is left.
Clarity springs from this
guarded silver lining.

I see a handsome young man
full of wonder and life.
A boy who cried in laughter,
clinging to his father’s back,
holding on for dear life
as they spun together,
simply because they were together,
simply because it was fun.
The simplest moments
those were the best.

That spark.
That tender heart.
That beauty of a child still
beams across this mirror.
Still laughing and crying,
Still spinning and clinging.
Still wide-eyed
and holding on.

Still needy
and hollow.
For I see another side of you,
my dear two-face.
